Monica Rockwell was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Beta Thalassaemia and Congestive Heart Failure at the tender age of 38. As an adult patient, she was looking for resources that were very limited and a short supply. After researching for over two years, she learned that patients were known as babies that come and go so they live a short life. Since patients are living longer and productive lives, the medical and pharmaceutical companies are looking for a cure. She created SWGA Sickle Cell Awareness as a Patient and Patient Advocate to raise awareness about the needs of adult patients and their network. She is a public speaker, consultant and mentor.
Annually she hosts three educational and resourceful events in the Southwest Georgia Region and Globally. They are Sickle Cell Awareness Meetings entitled “Come HUB With US”, “It’s A Family Thing and You Can Learn To Understand It” and “Let’s Game Plan for Sickle Cell” making sure patients have access to medical professionals, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, community based organizations and educational institutions. SWGA Sickle Cell Awareness YouTube Channel Playlist is Monica’s Story & Documentary, Knowledge is Power, Champion for Telehealth, Food for Medicine, Fun Fitness, Travel Therapy and Communication & Leadership.
