In celebration of NotJustYou’s seventh year, the Afro-Jazz Experience reimagined health education through culture, artistry and shared experience. Inspired by the Yoruba owambe, a grand celebration of community, and by the elegance of a cocktail party, it brought conversations about blood and stem cell donation into a room full of joy and pride.
The evening featured live Afro-jazz by Melafrique and Slim Tyme, canapés by Iranti, and reflections from sickle cell warriors and blood donors, presented with Canadian Blood Services, who welcomed guests at their table all night.
It opened a three-part initiative with Canadian Blood Services: a national digital campaign of donor and recipient stories, and a group blood donation during Black History Month.
